Try It!

Be a weather scientist

Three activities to try with friends and an adult. These are planned club activities; dates and places are still to be set.

Science

Weather Watch

Keep a two-week weather journal. What patterns can you find?

  1. Pick a safe spot to observe, with an adult.
  2. Record clouds, wind and temperature at the same time each day.
  3. Make a chart. Find one pattern. Ask one new question.

Grown-up tip: compare the journal with an approved nearby weather source.

Climate

The Shade Experiment

Compare a sunny spot and a shady spot. Do trees and surfaces change the temperature?

  1. Find a sunny spot and a shady spot close together.
  2. Measure both with the same thermometer, the same way.
  3. Repeat and compare. What made the difference?

Grown-up tip: supervise, and skip extreme heat. One small experiment doesn’t show a long-term climate trend.

Community

Neighborhood Care

Plan a supervised cleanup and see what a small team can do.

  1. Choose a school or park site, with permission.
  2. An adult arranges supervision, supplies and safe disposal.
  3. Record what you collected and how to cut waste.

Grown-up tip: no sharp objects, unknown chemicals or hazardous litter.

Start your own weather journal

  1. Look at the sky. What do you notice?
  2. Write the date, time, clouds, wind and any numbers you can measure.
  3. Add a drawing or a photo. How did the weather feel?
  4. After two weeks, look back. What changed?
